The Goonies is widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential movies to come from the ’80s. It’s a film that’s beloved by so many people including director Adam F. Goldberg who has spent nearly a decade writing a sequel to The Goonies.
According to Goldberg, he and Richard Donner, the director of the original film, were set to discuss the sequel to The Goonies before the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. Goldberg revealed this information shortly after the cast reunion hosted by Josh Gad.
Initially, Goldberg wrote the script just as a fun thing to do on the side, but now it seems like a sequel to The Goonies will actually occur a full thirty five years after the release of the first film. It’s amazing to see how much weight this movie carries after so much time. The film even made an appearance in the Lego Batman movie.
The ’80s were truly a magical era with so many various franchises that continue to impact pop culture to this day. The fact that Evil Dead movies are still being made is a testament to the influence of ’80s nostalgia, and other franchises are constantly popping back up.
