With the COVID-19 pandemic heating up in a lot of places, it’s increasingly likely that more and more movies will see delays of some sort. This includes the upcoming fantasy epic The Green Knight, a movie originally slated to premiere this summer, but those eager to see it will still have something to look forward to before the season’s over, courtesy of a tie-in tabletop RPG.
While it’s currently a mystery when the movie itself will be released now, distributor A24 announced in a press release today that The Green Knight: A Fantasy Roleplaying Game is now available to purchase on its website for $35, with orders planned to ship on August 7.
Designed by professional game master Timm Woods, the game will provide “an epic reimagining” of the classic Arthurian tale of Sir Gawain and the life-threatening challenge he accepts from the immortal Green Knight. For those seeking a more accessible alternative to the likes of Dungeons and Dragons, this will offer them a game master’s guide (complete with bonus quests), a Map of the Realm, five character sheets, and a 20-sided die.
For those interested, here’s the trailer for the movie:
Again, it’s not yet known when The Green Knight will be released, but the wording in A24’s press release suggests that it’s still planning on a theatrical premiere first, stressing that playing the tabletop RPG is “second only to seeing The Green Knight in theaters.” For now, at least, it doesn’t look like the company is considering having the movie skip theaters.
The Green Knight has no release date currently, but its tabletop RPG, The Green Knight: A Fantasy Roleplaying Game, will ship on August 7.
