Categorizing your favorite video game characters by Hogwarts houses can tell a lot about your favorite video game characters. This holds true even in the case of an ex-soldier working with an eco-terrorist group, to save the world from an evil corporation in Final Fantasy 7.

It’s a tale as old as time. As Cloud, Barett, Tifa, and others come together to stop Shinra, these individuals are showing their personality. So, where would these characters fall if they were at Hogwarts and assigned houses by The Sorting Hat? Take a look at our list below to see who would be rooming with Harry or Draco.

10 Cloud - Gryffindor

At the start of his journey, Cloud could be confused for a Slytherin. His cockiness and “all-about-the-money” attitude at the beginning of Final Fantasy 7 makes him a candidate for the snake’s house. However, this wasn’t the real Cloud.

His work with Barret and Tifa softened his stance and helped him embrace his true self. His bravery and loyalty came shining through as he took on Shinra. For him, “it better be Gryffindor!”

9 Barret Wallace - Hufflepuff

There is more to Hufflepuffs than being “nice and pleasant,” two words that don’t always describe Barret Wallace.

However, he has to be the hardest-working member of Avalanche, is extremely loyal and passionate to his cause (as well as ensuring his daughter, Marlene’s future), and doesn’t mind giving up the spotlight to others when necessary. He is selfless and genuinely cares about others. These traits make Barret a part of the badger crew.

8 Aerith Gainsborough - Hufflepuff

We have another addition to the Hufflepuff family. Aerith, the flower shop seller, turns out to be a significant part of the resistance. Much like a traditional Hufflepuff, she is an optimist, very forgiving, and incredibly loyal to her friends and the cause of Avalanche as a whole.

She is compassionate but also stubborn at times. However, she shows a humility that any Sorting Hat would identify as the trademark of a true Hufflepuff.

7 Tifa Lockhart - Ravenclaw

Much like Aerith, she is cheerful and dedicated to her friends. However, in addition to these traits, she adds a level of savvy and cleverness that makes her one of the primary driving forces of ensuring Avalanche’s success.

From being an accomplished martial artist who has studied under the best to helping Cloud embrace his commitment to saving the earth, Tifa shows intelligence and creativity that others don’t possess. If Hermione were in Final Fantasy 7, Tifa would be her mentor.

6 Sephiroth - Slytherin

We know what happens when someone deems themselves as “the chosen one” and thinks no one is powerful enough to attempt to beat them. Sephiroth is the quintessential Slytherin. He is arrogant, strikingly intelligent, calm, and calculating.

Even in his rage at the experiments that were done on him, he still acts in a cold and controlled way. He is driven by pride and vengefulness, two main hallmarks of a member of Slytherin. He respects skill and won’t rest until he accomplishes what he set out to do. He would be in good company with “He Who Must Not be Named.”

5 Jessie Rasberry - Ravenclaw

Again, Ravenclaw’s are known for their intelligent and analytical nature, and Jessie Rasberry definitely fits into that category. She makes bombs, heavily critiques her actions throughout the game, and is incredibly reflective.

She knows how to be personable and makes her affections for Cloud known through innocent flirting. However, her approach to strategy and the technical know-how she possesses puts her in Ravenclaw.

4 Biggs - Gryffindor

Being a leader isn’t always about being the loudest or the brashest person. If anyone displays this fact in Final Fantasy 7, it is Biggs. He is the direct opposite of Barret.

While they do share a loyalty to Avalanche, Biggs is a much calmer and rationale leader than Barret. He is down-to-earth and has a confidence that makes him trustworthy and reliable. Biggs is a true leader, which makes him a prime candidate for Gryffindor.

3 Rufus Shinra - Slytherin

Now, not all Slytherins are villains, but in this case, Rufus Shinra, vice president of Shinra Electric Power Company, has many of the qualities of a member of this house.

The famous Tom Riddle (aka Voldemort) held a distaste for his father, and Rufus seems to feel the same way, developing numerous schemes to overthrow his dad. Also, much like other famous Slytherins, Rufus wants to control the people of Midgar through fear and deception. He would fit right in with Draco Malfoy.

2 Wedge - Hufflepuff

Wedge joins Barret and Aerith as members of Hufflepuff. Jolly, easy-going, and friendly, Wedge exhibits the true nature of the house of Hufflepuff. He is good-natured and believes the best about people.

He feels that Cloud is driven by more than money, takes care of the neighborhood cats, and wants to do the best he can for Avalanche. He shows a genuine dedication to his friends, as well as the overall goal of Avalanche.

1 Professor Hojo - Slytherin

Slytherins are known for having a “get things done at all cost” kind of mindset. Professor Hojo is all about this mantra. He is willing to put people at risk to fulfill his scientific purposes.

He doesn’t care about whom he hurts, as long as he reaches his own selfish goals. He doesn’t really have a troubled past, which makes his descent into evil even more unsettling since his actions cannot be explained by trauma. At Hogwarts, Hojo would be in the running for the Defense Against the Dark Arts job.
