Rocksteady announces the last wave of DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight, which will include new story missions featuring Killer Croc, Mr. Freeze, and more.
Six months removed from the game’s launch, the final piece of DLC content is set to release for Batman: Arkham Knight. To be made available on Tuesday, December 22nd, Batman: Arkham Knight’s last DLC will include new story missions as well as new looks for the caped crusader and his iconic ride.
The story content comes in the form of a new set of side missions under the banner Season of Infamy. Four members of Batman’s infamous rogues gallery - Killer Croc, Mad Hatter, Mr. Freeze, and Ra’s Al Ghul - will be causing trouble in Gotham, and it will be up to Batman to save the city yet again. This will mark the first significant appearance by all four of these villains in Arkham Knight, and it should prove interesting to see what they’ve been up to since the events of Arkham City - Ra’s al Ghul especially.
As for the cosmetic items, Batman himself will receive a new suit based on Christian Bale’s Batman from The Dark Knight. One of the most popular comic book movies of all time, the suit was added due to popular demand, according to Rocksteady.
In the meantime, there will be a new look available for the Batmobile as well. The Batmobile already has a skin for it based on The Dark Knight, so its last skin will actually be based on its appearance from Batman: Arkham Asylum. The vehicle had a significantly reduced role in that game, and it should prove amusing to veterans of the franchise to see it in action on the streets of Gotham in Arkham Knight.
With the release of the game’s last batch of DLC content on Tuesday, Batman: Arkham Knight’s season pass will be fulfilled. It’s possible that more DLC beyond what was promised in the game’s season pass will be produced, but it seems unlikely, as Rocksteady probably wants to move on to their next project. In fact, the studio has been hiring new talent with qualifications that suggest that Rocksteady is making a multiplayer game.
Beyond that, there’s very little that’s known about Rocksteady’s next project. Considering the studio’s great success with Batman, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them forge ahead with an another DC Comics-based game, like one based on Superman or the Justice League. Of course, Rocksteady could produce another style of game entirely, and if so, Tuesday’s Arkham Knight DLC could potentially be the last time that the studio works on a DC Comics property.
Batman: Arkham Knight is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
