There are many side characters in The Last Of Us universe; however, Bill is one of the most complex due to his relationship with Joel and his incredible survivor skills. Bill and Joel have known each other for years and became acquaintances following the outbreak. Bill helps Joel and Ellie when they arrive in his town during the events of the first game.
Bill manages to live alone in isolation in the town of Lincoln, rarely ever coming across other survivors. Although Bill was only part of The Last Of Us for a short time, there are many details about him that are easy to completely miss while playing through the story.
10 Bill Is Always Paranoid
Bill is one of the most paranoid characters in The Last Of Us franchise, which isn’t too surprising considering everything that he has gone through since the outbreak.
It’s easy to completely miss just how paranoid Bill is. The large number of traps he has all over his town is proof that he doesn’t take kindly to strangers and is always scared of people who could be sneaking around, despite the fact that very few survivors pass through his territory.
9 Bill Never Found Out About Tess’ Death
Bill was good friends with Tess prior to her death, but one upsetting fact about their relationship is that he never learned the truth about her death. During a conversation with Joel, Bill asks him if the pair had a falling out.
Joel essentially confirms that he and Tess did, in fact, have a falling out, although this is a lie so that they do not have to go deeper into a conversation about her death. Bill most likely still believes that Tess is alive.
8 Bill Used To Smuggle Supplies Into The Quarantine Zone For Joel
Bill smuggled supplies for the characters Joel and Tess many times prior to the events of The Last Of Us. It is unclear exactly what Bill got out of this arrangement; however, it is known that he must be an incredibly skilled smuggler since the quarantine zone has a strong security force and many different threats, including hostile survivors and infected.
Joel and Tess most likely needed medicine and food on occasion when they were low on these supplies during their travels together.
7 Bill Is Skilled With Building From Scratch
Bill is a skilled mechanic; however, he is also talented with putting contraptions together from scraps that would be useless to the average person. An example of this is all of the traps that Bill created to alert him to potential threats around his town.
There are many mechanics in The Last Of Us universe; however, Bill’s talent for working with spare parts makes him arguably one of the best builders in the entirety of the franchise.
6 Bill’s Weapon Of Choice Is A Kukri
Bill uses a unique weapon in The Last Of Us. His weapon appears to be a traditional machete from Nepal called a Kukri. This weapon is not common in the United States, and it is interesting that Bill even manages to have this weapon in his possession.
It is unclear where Bill obtained this weapon from, but it is notable since most characters in the franchise use weapons that are more standard. Bill stands out from other characters in terms of combat because of this unique weapon.
5 Bill Owed Joel Favors For Unexplained Reasons
Bill owed Joel many favors, which is why he was forced to help him when Joel and Ellie arrived in Lincoln. The favors that Bill owed to Joel are probably the reason that he smuggled supplies into the quarantine zone.
Although the exact reason that Bill owed Joel isn’t public knowledge, it must have been something major since Bill wouldn’t have put his life on the line for a small reason. Bill’s debt was repaid after he helped the characters, Ellie and Joel, in Lincoln.
4 Bill Enjoys Chess And Owns A Chessboard
Bill is a fan of chess which is confirmed through both dialogue and a chessboard that he owns in the game. This chessboard is found in Bill’s main building of residency. However, players are not able to interact with it.
Bill even references a famous chess player during dialogue with Joel, which confirms that he doesn’t only keep a chessboard around for decoration. Still, he also enjoys playing and learning more about the game. With how strategic Bill acts during the apocalypse, it’s likely that he was fantastic at chess.
3 Bill Had A Romantic Partner Named Frank
Bill references his partner Frank in The Last Of Us; however, this character passed away prior to the events of the game. Although not too much is known about Frank, it is believed that he was Bill’s partner based on the way that he refers to him in conversation with Joel.
Frank is mentioned during dialogue in The Last Of Us, but it is easy to miss that he was most likely Bill’s romantic partner since it is only implied and not blatantly revealed.
2 Bill Is The Only Survivor Living In Lincoln
Bill is the only known Survivor that resides in the town of Lincoln long term. As previously mentioned, Bill had a partner named Frank, but he died before Joel and Ellie arrived in the town.
Bill has to live all by himself in what has essentially become a ghost town which is one of the reasons that he is always looking over his back. Although Bill seems to be mentally resilient for the most part, he certainly gets lonely living in Lincoln all by himself.
1 Bill Is Skilled In Archery
Archery is a rare skill in The Last Of Us universe, and survivors that manage to master it are at a great advantage when fighting the infected since it is silent and one of the best weapon types, unlike a pistol or rifle.
Although Bill doesn’t use a bow as his primary weapon during the events of The Last Of Us, Joel confirms through dialogue that he is quite skilled in archery. There are also arrows scattered around the town of Lincoln, which proves that Bill regularly uses a bow for fending off the infected.
