With voice acting work on The Last of Us 2 hopefully wrapped up for the most part, the voice of Ellie, Ashley Johnson, is finally able to get back around the table with her Dungeons and Dragons pals at Critical Role. Unfortunately, the Mighty Nein had to put their current adventures on hold until it’s safe to gather in person again and return to Wildemount. Luckily, this has led to some spin-off content that produced one of the most hilarious Ashley Johnson moments in Critical Role history.

Although Ashley Johnson is a fantastic voice actress and amazing D&D player, apparently telephone isn’t her strong suit. For those unfamiliar, telephone is a game where a short message starts with one person and is passed down a line through multiple people until the group gets to hear how different the end result is from where things started. The Critical Role team has been playing the game on a weekly basis during their Dungeons and Dragons hiatus, with the message being different stories from world of Exandria, and the results have been consistently hilarious.

In both of the existing episodes of Narrative Telephone, Ashley Johnson’s segment has been one of the highlights. In week one she misheard “the wolf did speak” as “and this wolf had a beak” and memes were immediately born as a result. Her performance got even more entertaining this week as she started and stopped the story three different times trying to recreate Jester’s iconic accent. Things only got even more hilarious from there…

For those who missed it, here’s a look back at the first episode, as well…

Although Narrative Telephone is hilarious, these episodes are definitely a reminder of how exciting it will be when Critical Role able to get back together to continue campaign 2 and the adventures of the Mighty Nein. Hopefully a bit later this summer Ashley Johnson fans will be able to dive into The Last of Us 2 and see her take on the lead role and also start enjoying new episodes of Critical Role when it’s safe for the group to reunite in person.

Critical Role campaign 2 episodes are currently on hiatus, but the team is putting out other lots of other content, including Narrative Telephone, on a weekly basis until they’re able to gather around the Dungeons and Dragons table again.

The Last of Us 2 will be available on June 19th exclusively for PS4.
