The extended tv commercial trailer for The Last of Us Part 2 has arrived sooner than expected. Sony and Naughty Dog only released the thirty-second Last of Us 2 TV spot two days ago — not that anyone is complaining.

The Last of Us 2 trailer comes from PlayStation’s official Youtube channel, whereas the original aired on ESPN. The extended cut is twice as long as the original and fleshes out its elements. In other words, it doesn’t cover anything new, but it does provide a greater context as to what’s happening.

Like last time, this trailer sees Ellie struggling with her emotions and the enemy groups present in The Last of Us Part 2. Unlike last time, however, the footage isn’t spliced with her playing the guitar, so viewers get to see Ellie’s entire trailer journey — from how she outruns a group of WLF members and Clickers to how she ends up preparing to fire into a crowd of Seraphites.

It’s worth noting that Ellie still sings and plays the guitar in this extended version, it just doesn’t cut into her trailer journey as much as last time. This allows the trailer to reveal that Ellie is performing for her girlfriend, and not just providing background music as the original TV spot implied.

The song played is called “True Faith,” by Lotte Kesnerand. Fans can find it on Apple music. Apple will also be where the official The Last of Us Podcast airs.

This extended trailer also doesn’t feature any Last of Us 2 gameplay, as it merely fleshes out the previous teaser. That said, viewers still get a good idea of what to expect from the game through this trailer. Ellie’s one-on-one fight remains a realistic look at what her combat style will be like in-game, and why she should avoid squaring up to bigger enemies if she can help it.

The trailer does an even better job than the original of showing just how The Last of Us Part 2’s setting will affect the game. The darkened parts of Seattle, such as the corridors Ellie finds herself sprinting through, are prime places to run headlong into groups of enemies like the trailer’s Clickers. On the other hand, they’re also decent places to lose any pursing enemies, like the trailer WLF members. Finally, using surrounding foilage or debris like the moss-covered car is a good way to get the jump on enemies.

The Last of Us Part 2 launches for the PlayStation 4 on June 19, 2020.
