In The Last of Us 2, players are reintroduced to a post-apocalyptic world that has been ravaged by the Cordyceps fungal infection for over 20 years. But this time, Ellie is the controllable protagonist who sets off to Seattle, Washington. In her quest for revenge, Ellie will need to fight off the ever-present threat of the infected and other humans using any weapons she can find including the pump shotgun.
Veteran The Last of Us players should remember how useful the original shotgun was in the first game after being picked up early on. With devastating power and wider aim compared to other guns, the shotgun remained a reliable weapon throughout the story especially when upgraded. And just like before, The Last of Us 2 players can acquire the pump shotgun soon after stepping foot in Seattle with a little exploring.
Where to Find the Pump Shotgun
The pump shotgun can be picked up during the course of “Seattle Day 1.” After getting through Seattle’s main gate, the next section will have Ellie exploring downtown Seattle in search of gas to power a generator. One of the buildings that players can opt to search is the Westlake Bank and this is where the pump shotgun will be located as well. The bank itself is immediately left of where Ellie first arrives, at the intersection between Cherry St and 6th Ave if looking at the tourist map.
Inside the Bank
Almost immediately after getting inside, there will be a few runners and clickers wandering around the main lobby. Try to take each one out stealthily or otherwise just shoot them, but prioritize the clickers first. Once the infected are cleared out, head to the back room with “SAFE DEPOSIT LOCKERS” over it. To the left of the entrance will be a locked vault that needs a combination to open it.

Thankfully, the numbers needed to unlock the vault are just a few feet away. Get Ellie to inspect the nearby body to find a note that reveals a botched bank robbery and the code, 60 23 06. After inputting this combination, the door will open to reveal all of the bank’s money and more importantly, another dead robber still clutching his weapon. Simply walk up and have Ellie interact with the corpse to receive a brand new pump shotgun.
Although the pump shotgun is extremely powerful, it does have some drawbacks such as slow reload speed. However, customizing the shotgun at a workbench can upgrade its fire rate, stability, and capacity to circumvent any weaknesses. After picking up the pump shotgun, its ammo will occasionally be found especially in the world or hands of dead enemies, meaning the weapon will continue to be a useful tool throughout the whole story.
