Ever since its announcement, The Last of Us: Part 2 has been one of the PS4’s most anticipated upcoming exclusives. But with Sony skipping E3 2019, PS4 owners missed out on getting an update on The Last of Us: Part 2, with many wanting to know when they will actually be able to get to play the game. We still don’t have a definitive answer when it comes to The Last of Us: Part 2’s release date, but Ellie voice actress Ashley Johnson may have accidentally leaked it in an interview with Critical Roll.

At the end of the interview, Johnson is asked when The Last of Us: Part 2 is coming out. It appears as though she begins to say “February,” before either stopping herself or letting the interviewer cut her off. It’s also possible she was just joking, but a February 2020 release date has been backed up by other sources.

For example, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, who confirmed Death Stranding was coming in November before it was officially announced, believes The Last of Us: Part 2 was pushed to early 2020. Meanwhile, industry insider ZhugeEX over on the Resetera forum has confirmed that February 2020 is the current internal release date for The Last of Us: Part 2 at Naughty Dog.

And with the PS5 expected to launch in fall of 2020, an early 2020 release date for The Last of Us: Part 2 seems even more likely. After all, some may recall that the original Last of Us released just before the PS4’s launch in 2013, so it seems fitting for the sequel to follow suit.

Of course, it’s worth emphasizing that the February 2020 date is the “internal” release date for The Last of Us: Part 2, which means that it’s not exactly set in stone. Anything can happen between now and then, and it’s possible that the game will be pushed back yet again.

A clearer idea of The Last of Us: Part 2’s release date should come at the PlayStation Experience, if it’s not revealed sooner. Fans will just have to tune in this December to see for sure.

The Last of Us: Part 2 is rumored for release in February 2020 on PS4.
