The Last of Us 2 might be the most highly anticipated PlayStation exclusive of this generation, with fans anxiously awaiting the next chapter of the game’s dark storyline. And while a series of Last of Us 2 leaks have spoiled the game’s story for many, those that have avoided leaks will soon get more information on the game, as Sony has announced a dedicated Last of Us 2 State of Play.

The stream is set to take place on Wednesday, May 27 at 1 pm PST/4 pm EST – so just a few days away. The live stream will debut 20 minutes of new Last of Us 2 gameplay and details, which should give fans a better idea of what to expect from the game. The final sequence alone will be 8 minutes of never-before-seen gameplay, a healthy chunk.

Those that have managed to avoid spoilers up until now will want to proceed with caution, though. The stream is bound to be full of people trying to spoil the game’s plot in the comments, which has been an issue with numerous streams unrelated to the game. Ghost of Tsushima’s State of Play had similar issues, undercutting the joy of that new gameplay for many viewers.

A few weeks ago, The Last of Us 2 was delayed due to supply chain issues caused by the coronavirus pandemic. While the delay was declared to be “indefinite” at the time, Naughty Dog announced a new release date relatively quickly, with the game now slated to launch on June 19 – just a few short weeks from now.

Sony will need to walk a delicate line with the new information revealed. There’s still a large split between who has and has not seen the plot leaks, and revealing too much might be a dead giveaway. It is possible that Sony explores the role of the Fireflies in Last of Us 2, or simply establishes how the world has changed in the time between the two games, which may be the best way to proceed.

Either way, fans only have a few days before they get to find out. This will likely be the last major information dump before The Last of Us 2 releases, so those anxiously awaiting the game will definitely want to tune in to the stream.
