After a number of delays and unfortunate PR moments, Naughty Dog’s next chapter in The Last of Us franchise has finally arrived. Players are once again reuniting with an older Ellie and Joel as they attempt to navigate a brutal world that has become overrun with infected as well as factions that have appeared to try and regain control of the now broken world.

In addition to Ellie being the main protagonist this time around, The Last of Us 2 also adds in a number of new mechanics and features to the game including taking players to a reimagined Seattle, Washington where two warring factions are battling for territory and control. New upgrades, weapons, and tool also await players on their 25+ hour adventure.

One item that makes its return in this sequel is the flamethrower, a powerful ally when fighting both Infected and human enemies. Here’s how to grab the flamethrower in The Last of Us Part 2. Before continuing, please note that this guide features a few spoilers for the main game. Reader beware.

Where to Find the Flamethrower

The Flamethrower isn’t available until in the later portions of the game, specifically when Abby is the new playable character. During the Day Two segment in Seattle when Abby and Lev are searching a hospital for supplies, the first chance to obtain this powerful weapon comes near the end of the makeshift bridge section after falling off and into a hotel pool.

When working down through the hotel, there’s a floor with spores in the air. Lev doesn’t have a mask with him, so the player will need to locate one before continuing. Once the mask has been found, players should use the fire hose to climb down a few floors in the hotel. One more floor below where the player can get off will contain the flamethrower.

On this floor, move all the way through the floor where a bathroom door can be found that will let players squeeze through. Walk across a plank into the next room and a soldier’s corpse will be seen leaning up against the wall with the flamethrower resting on the body.

Things to Note

The Flamethrower occupies the long gun slot in the inventory and thankfully does not require a special holster in order to carry it. While the Flamethrower is an excellent tool for dealing with crowd control, the fuel it requires to use is extremely rare. Players will want to manage how much fuel is consumed as it should be conserved for only when it is needed most. Using it on single enemies or ones that are easy to defeat are not recommended.
