The Last of Us Part 2 forces players to fight to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, and the game doesn’t go easy on players. However, the game also gives players ways to the strengthen themselves in different aspects through means such as Training Manual skill trees as they progress through the story.
The upgrades in The Last of Us 2 can help in different ways as Ellie makes her way through the game’s campaign. Some of these upgrades are more beneficial than others, and with a limited ability to upgrade these different skills, players need to have an idea of what to prioritize when deciding what skills to invest in. Each player has their individual play styles, there are still good skills that players can utilize and tailor-fit to the way they play the game.
While it can be good to have a more balanced character, players can lean more into stealth or combat based on how they want to approach potentially hostile situations in The Last of Us 2. Regardless, a key skill tree branch that players pay attention to early on is the initial Survival tree, which gives a lot of helpful upgrades like faster health kits, an overall health increase, and Endure.
The next skill tree players can have access to is Crafting, but most of the upgrades are just time savers instead of huge benefits, so players may want to overlook those initially. However, crafting melee weapons can be really helpful, and improving health kit efficiency may be necessary if players are taking a lot of damage, so there are still some things players may want to pick up from that skill tree.
Stealth is the next available skill tree, and players in this skill tree as much as they can as soon as they have access to it. Even if a player is more combat-oriented, Stealth is always a helpful tree to invest in. The different skills in this tree are useful, so players can invest in whichever abilities they want and it would be a good choice.
The last skill tree available in the first half of the game is Precision, which has a lot of really good options. If players get up to the Precision skill tree and haven’t needed to buy into skills to get through the game, it would be invested in this tree. Precision gives players access to aim stability, extended listen mode range, the ability to hold Ellie’s breath for longer, and additional arrow crafting, which are all really useful skills to have.
These are the skill trees that the players have access to in the first half of The Last of Us 2. Naughty Dog has definitely given players more options for upgradable skills compared to the previous game.
The Last of Us 2 is out now, exclusively for PS4.
