In a surprising moment during last night’s episode of Jeopardy, Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed The Last of Us showed up as both a clue and an answer to a question. The contestant answering the question, Xiaoke, must be a fan of the game, as she swiftly delivers the correct answer.

The question showed up in the World of Video Games category, and was the highest value of them all, ranked at $2000. Alex Trebek begins the question, saying “The long awaited, upcoming sequel to this PlayStation game revisits Ellie and Joel after a cross country trek filled with zombies.” As the question is being asked, footage The Last of Us’ upcoming sequel plays.

None of this footage is anything new, however, as all of the scenes shown have been revealed previously at a preview event at the end of last year. Still, the Naughty Dog Twitter account seemed to find the feature interesting, and commented on it with a post thanking Jeopardy for featuring its game.

Unfortunately, most of the comments on this tweet don’t have much to do with the actual appearance on Jeopardy. Instead, fans are anxiously awaiting the reveal of more information regarding a potential early release of The Last of Us 2. That said, there are those that feel the pressure being put on Naughty Dog to release the sequel despite problems caused by the Coronavirus is in bad taste, especially given that the studio recently revealed that its crunch culture has negative effects on employees.

Others have taken to their keyboards to bring back the age old debate of whether or not the enemies in The Last of Us are zombies. Technically speaking, what many refer to as zombies in The Last of Us are actually infected, as they owe their loss of sensibility to an infection from the Cordyceps Fungus. The term zombie implies that the creature is dead and has risen again as undead, but the infected from The Last of Us are still very much alive and cannot rise again from the dead once slain.

The massive outcry for the game’s early release comes in response to The Last of Us 2’s indefinite delay as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. This game along with Marvel’s Iron Man VR were both subject to the delay, and Naughty Dog has since been working with Sony to find possible options for an early digital release instead.

The Last of Us 2 has been delayed indefinitely, but is coming to PS4.
