The wait is (almost) finally over for what may be the most highly anticipated game of this console generation: The Last Of Us Part II.
It’s been a long road to get here, but TLOU2 is now only 30 days away, scheduled for release June 19th, 2020. Thankfully, there’s virtually no possible way the game will get delayed this time.
The original release was scheduled for February 21st of this year, but was delayed in late 2019 until May 29th. In October, director Neil Druckmann wrote in a Playstation blogpost that they simply didn’t have enough time to “bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality.” At that point, the game was delayed for 3 month, but it would be delayed again thanks to the difficult market conditions created by the coronavirus. Publishing and distribution became a concern, so on April 2nd it was announced that the game would be delayed indefinitely.
Finally, the new new release date was announced at the end of April, marking June 19th as the ultimate day, and there’s no turning back now. On May 5th, Druckmann posted a short video to celebrate that The Last Of Us Part II had officially gone gold. This is the final step in the development of any game pre-launch and denotes that the title is ready to be pressed on to disks and shipped out to retailers. The wait is (almost) finally over and, rain or shine, TLOU2 will be in our hands in just 30 days.
