If you’re ready to murder somebody for the audacity of playing a PS Vita in the apocalypse, you’re in luck. The Last of Us Part II is almost here, and we can finally put the months of delays, rumors, and leaks to rest.
But if you’re willing to wait a little bit, you’ll be rewarded with an early PlayStation 5 blockbuster. That is to say, The Last of Us Part II will likely look and run like a dream on Sony’s new console - at least according to PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan.
In an interview with tech website CNet, Ryan confirmed that the upcoming game would not only support PlayStation 5, but will also run smoothly on the new platform. This will come as a huge relief to early adopters that may want to experience Naughty Dog’s latest on the newest tech.
PlayStation has fallen under justified scrutiny in recent years, as their stance on backwards compatibility is, itself, fairly backwards. It’s nice to see these early olive branches being extended, but if Sony really wants to win back support, they’ll have to do a lot more. After all, “our latest extremely big-budget game will run on our new, pricey console” isn’t so much a concession as it is an advertisement.
