The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild is easily one of the greatest games ever released. The idea of a Zelda game turning into what seemed like a generic open-world experience was met with a lukewarm reception from the series’ fans when it was revealed for the first time, but Nintendo completely subverted fan expectations with the release of what is arguably the finest open-world ever created in a video game.

The world of Breath Of The Wild has four major settlements that one can visit to take care of the Divine Beast that’s wreaking havoc there. However, accessing these places are puzzles in their own right, so one needs to be well-prepared to make the journey towards any one of these settlements.

Goron City is perhaps the trickiest of the lot to access for a variety of reasons. To make your trek through this fiery landscape easier, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to reach Goron City and tackle Vah Rudania.

12 Make Sure You Have Something Other Than Wooden Equipment On You

The air in and around Goron City is highly combustible, meaning that any flammable objects will catch fire in a heartbeat — yourself included.

While the means to protect yourself will be revealed later, make it a point to carry bows, shields, and weapons that aren’t made of wood with you, since those will be rendered virtually useless.

11 Unlock Lanayru Tower If You Haven’t Already

Unlocking Lanayru Tower will make your trek to Goron City easier, so make sure that do the same if you haven’t already.

You’ll find this tower by heading north from Kakariko Village, across the lake. Climb this structure to figure out where your next destination lies.

10 Head Towards Foothill Stable

From Lanayru Tower, you need to head northwest towards Foothill Stable. While taking a horse might be tempting here, you’re better off without a steed that won’t explode into flames halfway through your journey.

The real reason why you should go to Foothill Stable is something else…

9 Definitely Buy The Fireproof Elixir To Make Your Journey WAY Easier

In Foothill Stable, you’ll find a person called Gaile who will sell three Fireproof Elixirs to you for a measly 150 rupees.

It is strongly recommended that you take these elixirs since doing so will help you tolerate the burning atmosphere of Death Mountain.

8 Prepare To Deal With Two Guardians On Your Way

Now, you’ll need to head towards Eldin Tower to reveal the map and make your exploration easier… but the journey won’t be all that simple.

On your way to Eldin Tower, you’ll a major obstacle in the form of two Guardians blocking your way. Thankfully, they won’t appear simultaneously, since the game doesn’t outright hate you. If you think you’re up to the challenge, lay into these two automatons… otherwise, we recommend that you take some detours to avoid these beasts.

7 Head To Eldin Tower To Get A Lay Of The Land

After escaping from or dispatching of both the Guardians, your path towards Eldin Tower should be without any major hurdles.

Unlock the tower to make your destination as clear as can be.

6 Journey North Through The Burning Air

From Eldin Tower, you need to go further north towards Goron City. However, the journey is not going to be smooth going forward — you’ll finally feel the full force of Death Mountain’s fiery atmosphere.

Drink a Fireproof Elixir to make the heat bearable, and remove any wooden equipment that Link might’ve equipped on his person… unless you want a good weapon to go to waste.

5 Avoid Or Defeat The Igneo Talus In Your Way

As you head further north, you’ll see patches of lava… coupled with a suspiciously-placed boulder in the middle of it all. This boulder is actually an Igneo Talus, who will completely wipe the floor with Link unless you prepare yourself.

As was the case with the two Guardians, only face this enemy if you think you’re up to the task. If not, then give this boulder the widest of berths so that you don’t trigger a boss fight.

4 Head To The Southern Mine

Head north from the Igneo Talus encounter to reach a wall that has a bunch of magma rocks entangled in the mix. Carefully scale this wall and you’ll soon reach the Southern Mine.

You’re mostly done with your journey to Goron City… but there’s a small quest you can complete here to make things easier for yourself.

3 Finish Kima’s Sidequest To Make Things Easier

In the Southern Mine, you’ll find a person by the name of Kima who’ll want you to give him 10 Fireproof Lizards.

We recommend that you do so, since the reward for this is a Flamebreaker Armor that will make roaming around this area easier… and also save a ton of money in the process.

It certainly helps that there are a ton of Fireproof Lizards roaming all around the Southern Mine, making it easier for you to catch these swift pests.

2 Dodge Vah Rudania’s Boulder Barrage

Exiting the Southern Mine and heading further towards Goron City will reveal another obstacle in your path — and a pretty major one at that.

Upon sensing your arrival, Vah Rudania will go absolutely berserk and shoot a barrage of boulders at you. Try and dodge these to the best of your ability — it’s not as daunting as one might assume.

1 It’s A Straight-Forward Path To Goron City!

Vah Rudania’s blitz is the last form of danger that Link will have to endure on his way to Goron City.

After enduring this onslaught, the part to Goron City will be all but obvious, allowing you to enter this settlement and trigger the quest to calm Vah Rudania down.
