One of the things that makes Grand Theft Auto V so fun and engaging are the characters. Even more than the realistic beachfront scenes and the chaotic streets of Los Santos, the hot-headedness of Trevor and the criminal savvy of Michael stand out. Their character traits are what helps the narrative of this game to truly stand-out.
Today, it’s time to see where the characters of Grand Theft Auto V fall on the MBTI® spectrum. The MBTI® measures various aspects of someone’s personality; whether someone is introverted or extroverted, uses sensing or intuition, thinks or feels, or is known to judge or perceive. How do people like Franklin and Trevor fair? Check out the MBTI® scores of Grand Theft Auto V characters below.
10 Trevor Phillips: ESFP
Trevor has many issues. He is impulsive, prone to hurting others without remorse, and blames others for his current situation. Nevertheless, you will definitely know when Trevor is in the room because of his “larger than life” personality. The ESFP is known as “The Performer,” and this rings true for Trevor, as he owns every scene that he is in. Trevor will definitely show you a good time, but be may not be the best person to depend on in a pinch—not to mention the fact that you’re likely to wake up in a dumpster the next morning.
9 Franklin Clinton: ISTP
ISTPs enjoy fast-paced activities, are quiet, and are fairly easy-going. These are all attributes of Franklin. He can get along very well with Michael and his family, is rational and quick-thinking during missions, and is driven by ambition. ISTPs can seem distant from those close to them—a possible reason for why Franklin’s relationships with his girlfriend and close friends don’t work out the best. However, Franklin is intuitive and helpful, a true ISTP.
8 Lamar Davis: ESFP
Lamar is also in the ESFP group like Trevor. Both are seen as comic-reliefs and distractions from some of the more serious elements of the game. They are attention-seekers and like being around others.
However, there is where the similarities end. Lamar isn’t very bright and always seems to get others around him into trouble. He can be ruthless and very impulsive in how he deals with others, a classic ESFP.
7 Michael De Santa: ESTJ
Now, ESTJs are typically concerned with sticking to tradition and playing by the rules. This trait doesn’t seem like it fits with Michael’s character, but it actually does. Even though he made his early living by robbing banks, when placed into witness protection, he chose a more traditional lifestyle: wife, kids, house, the works. He is hard-working, likes to be in charge, and definitely fulfills the role of “the leader” in the group.
6 Lester Crest: INTP
Logic and rationality are the two most prominent concepts that come into mind regarding Lester. Intelligent, detail-oriented, and excellent at using technology to solve problems, he is the primary mastermind of the game’s heists and is excellent at planning out missions within the game. He is the type of guy you want on your team if you need something done.
5 Stretch: ESTP
ESTPs know how to work the room, but they can also be seen as unfeeling and insensitive. Stretch, much like Trevor, is murderous, sadistic, and uncaring about the feelings of others. He is always trying to manipulate Lamar and is generally untrustworthy.
He is dangerously persuasive, and for all the wrong reasons. ESTPs are also known to be impulsive, a trait that Stretch knows all too well.
4 Amanda De Santa: ESFJ
ESFJ’s are typically seen as caregivers and those who offer warmth to others. They are highly emotional, and their well-being can depend on the attention they receive from others. Unfortunately, Amanda has skewed toward the more negative traits of this personality type. Her environment hasn’t been enriching, and the emotional trauma of her life thus far has driven her to be needy, controlling, impulsive, and incredibly sensitive. For ESFJ’s, emotion takes center stage, and this rings true for Amanda.
3 Steve Haines: ESTP
The ESTP personality type seems to be all the rage for the villains of Grand Theft Auto V. As you know, Steve is a corrupt FIB agent looking to use Michael, Trevor, and Franklin to further his reckless ambitions.
Much like Stretch, Steve knows how to be charming when he needs to. Nevertheless, this guy is just as ruthless, insensitive, and calloused. He is highly intelligent and knows how to use others to get what he wants. ESTPs can be excellent in positive situations, but Steve has taken on the more negative characteristics of this group: hyper-competitiveness, insensitivity, and impulsiveness.
2 Dave Norton: INTP
Dave is a bit of the opposite of Steve Haines. He is a bit more reserved, is polite to others, and deals with individuals on a more reasonable basis. However, he will also throw out the rule book when he wants to get his way.
INTPs can be challenging to read and have a tendency to bend the rules when necessary, and both of these things adequately describe Dave’s approach to things. Again, he is less outwardly unpleasant than Steve, but he is still one to watch out for.
1 Ron Jakowski: INFP
Conspiracy theorist Ron Jakowski is the friend of Trevor, as well as a fellow pilot. This guy is nervous, devoted to Trevor—likely out of fear—and can be dangerous in his own right. Emotions drive him, and, in a twisted way, he truly cares about Trevor.
However, his conspiracy theorist leanings and paranoia make him overly idealistic and cause him to have a knack for overreacting. Again, Ron can be dangerous when put in situations he cannot handle.
