Sony has confirmed recent rumors regarding a PS5 version of The Medium by uploading a new trailer along with a release date.
Not too long ago, Xbox console exclusive The Medium was rated for PS5, leading to rumors that a PS5 version of the title is soon to be announced. It turns out those rumors were true, as an official trailer for the PS5 version has been uploaded to PlayStation’s official YouTube channel. The Medium will be creeping onto PS5 systems on September 3 later this year.
What’s strange about this announcement is that there was no indication from Xbox or developer Bloober Team that the game would be a timed exclusive. Nobody outright denied that the game wouldn’t be coming to PS5 at some point in the future, but pretty much all of the game’s marketing, including the game’s reveal trailer, made it seem like The Medium was a permanent Xbox console exclusive.
Whatever the case may be, at least PS5 owners will now have the chance to check out this unique, Silent Hill-inspired horror title. The Medium features what Bloober Team calls “dual-reality” gameplay, utilizing the power of next-gen systems to allow players to seamlessly switch between two different versions of the same world to solve puzzles and explore two separate realities at once.
The game has you play as a spirit medium called Marianne who receives a mysterious phone call from a man named Thomas who offers to show her the origins of her powers. Similar to games like Silent Hill and Amnesia, The Medium has players solving a variety of different puzzles whilst trying to avoid ever-present monsters that will happily murder you if you try to take them on.
As the headline suggests, The Medium is coming to PS5 on September 3 but is currently available right now on PC and Xbox Series X|S and is also available on Game Pass. If you’d like to learn more about The Medium, you can read our in-depth review here.
