Chances are you’ve heard about the mass hysteria surrounding Mario remasters for the Nintendo Switch. According to GameRant, “Nintendo is planning on remastering most Super Mario Bros. games for the Nintendo Switch.”

As the mascot of Nintendo, Mario has appeared in countless hit games. A humble Italian plumber who wears overalls is evidently a hero. Nintendo is well-renowned for games that appeal to a wide demographic. Their appeal is virtually incomparable in the industry.

It hasn’t been confirmed when the aforementioned remastered Mario games will release for the Nintendo Switch, but reports suggest they are releasing for the franchise’s 35th anniversary. In the spirit of the recent news, here are the most wanted Mario remasters for the Nintendo Switch.

10 Super Mario Bros. Deluxe

Also known as Super Mario DX, Super Mario Bros. Deluxe kicks off this listicle as our tenth most wanted remaster for the Nintendo Switch. This game released in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, bringing Super Mario Bros. gameplay never before seen on a handheld device.

If you are one of the lucky ones who purchased the port for the Nintendo 3DS, you know about this worthy successor. To say this game deserves a remaster is redundant at this point.

9 Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

As a game that was way ahead of its time, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars graced the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) way back in 1996. Square developed the game before the Square-Enix merger.

Super Mario RPG contains many of the traditional elements of role-playing games. Features such as multiple playable characters and turn-based combat make it comparable to Final Fantasy. This game served as inspiration for the Paper Mario series—and deserves a remaster for the Switch.

8 Super Mario 3D World

Many people criticize the Wii U, but by the end of its lifespan, it accumulated a sizeable collection of games. Many of the Wii U’s games are candidates for Nintendo Switch remasters.

Super Mario 3D World is the second-best-selling game on the Wii U because of its jovial story and eye-opening gameplay. It’s comparable to Super Mario 3D Land but has more depth. Its multiplayer could be criticized for its unreliable camera angles, but overall, it is a game that many would want to see come to the Nintendo Switch.

7 Paper Mario

The first game in the Paper Mario series is arguably one of the best Mario games ever made. For the first time, a Mario game had a story with layers. The art style of Paper Mario is by no means tacky. It plays in three-dimensions despite having a paper-like appearance. Several sequels were made as a result of the hype surrounding the original. This classic undoubtedly deserves a remaster for its nostalgic appeal and timeless gameplay.

6 Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

There’s a strong possibility that Nintendo will remaster games from platforms other than the Nintendo 64. There is a likelihood that Nintendo GameCube games will make the jump to the Nintendo Switch.

An obvious choice is Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door due to being a highly acclaimed game in the franchise. This RPG has improved gameplay over its predecessor, even if the changes aren’t significant. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door would look gorgeous in 1080P resolution—and we can’t wait!

5 Mario Kart 64

Released for the Nintendo 64, Mario Kart 64 took an unprecedented leap in track racing with the introduction of 3D graphics. Super Mario Kart for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is already a part of Nintendo Switch Online’s library, making Mario Kart 64 next in line.

Who could forget iconic tracks like Bowser’s Castle, Royal Raceway, Moo Moo Farm, Wario Stadium, and Rainbow Road? The wide array of characters and tracks would play phenomenally online. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled features online capabilities, so there’s no reason Mario Kart 64 can’t as well. It doesn’t matter what name they choose. Mario Kart 64: Bowser’s Revenge? There are endless possibilities.

4 Super Mario Galaxy 2

The Nintendo Wii is Nintendo’s best-selling video game console, excluding handhelds. Not everyone got a chance to play Super Mario Galaxy 2, but many people believe it’s a step-up since the first Super Mario Galaxy.

Seeing Mario pursue Bowser, who has once again kidnapped Princess Peach, in outer space is brilliance in itself. With the ability to ride the green dinosaur Yoshi, Super Mario Galaxy 2 stands out in the Super Mario series.

3 Super Mario Sunshine

Getting your hands on a copy of Super Mario Sunshine and a working condition Nintendo GameCube is more difficult than you could imagine. A long overdue remaster is needed for the Nintendo Switch.

Super Mario Sunshine is a sequel to Super Mario 64 and uses many of the same gameplay elements. This time around, however, Mario uses a device called a “FLUDD,” which can be used to perform stunts in the game. It also acts as a weapon against certain enemies.

2 Super Mario Galaxy

The original Super Mario Galaxy is the game that many of us fell in love with on the Nintendo Switch. Mostly everyone is scratching their heads, wondering why this game isn’t already remastered for the Switch.

There is a level of polish and originality in the first Super Mario Galaxy that makes it stand out. Multiple reports are stating that this remaster is already in the works. If validated, it will mark an impactful step forward for Nintendo and the highly acclaimed Super Mario franchise.

1 Super Mario 64

As the first mainstream Mario game to feature three-dimensional gameplay, Super Mario 64 is our most wanted remaster for the Nintendo Switch. A remaster could add features like online multiplayer, enhanced graphics, and new courses. Super Mario 64 DS, an enhanced port remake, added new courses. Although handheld games have their limitations, Super Mario 64 DS was an exceptional remake for what it accomplished.

If Nintendo looks towards remasters like the Crash N. Sane Trilogy and the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, fans will be pleased. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled incorporated online multiplayer, and so can Super Mario 64.

The sky is the limit, and Super Mario 64 has been a most wanted remake for some time. With Princess Peach playing the damsel in distress, Bowser as the villain, and Mario donning the Wing Cap, Super Mario 64 is the quintessential Mario adventure.
