The New Mutants, a spin-off of Fox’s X-Men film franchise, was originally set to premiere in April of 2018. But then Disney bought Fox, and The New Mutants disappeared from the schedule. Eventually, the film was rescheduled for an April 2020 release date, but then the ongoing coronavirus pandemic threw a wrench in those plans as well. However, evidence suggests that The New Mutants may potentially be skipping theaters in favor of a digital release.
If The New Mutants does skip theaters, it won’t be the first Disney movie to do so this year. It’s already been confirmed that Artemis Fowl is headed straight to Disney Plus, so it’s out of the realm of possibility that something similar will happen with The New Mutants.
For now, The New Mutants release date remains a mystery. Hopefully some solid information comes from Disney sooner rather than later, so those looking forward to the movie can stop guessing.
